Brendan Scherer, MD
Program Director, Psychiatry Residency Training Program

Dr. Scherer graduated from Columbia University and completed his medical training at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, where he also served as Co-Chief Resident. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since finishing his residency he has consistently worked at San Mateo Medical Center in the psychiatry emergency room.

Tamar Meidav, MD
Assistant Director, Psychiatry Residency Training Program, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Outpatient Clinic and School Services

Dr. Meidav graduated from St John’s College, and completed her MD and medical internship at Case Western Reserve University. She completed her psychiatry residency at Harvard Medical School, and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Harvard and UCSF. During residency, Dr. Meidav served on the American Psychiatric Association Council on Children and Families as a Mead-Johnson Fellow.  Upon graduation, Dr. Meidav joined San Mateo County. She served as the inaugural site director for the Stanford-San Mateo Community Track Child Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr.

Zachary A. Plaut, MD
Assistant Director, Psychiatry Residency Training Program and Inpatient Psychiatrist at San Mateo Medical Center

Dr. Plaut graduated from UC Berkeley and UC Davis School of Medicine and completed his psychiatric residency at San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, where he also served as Co-Chief Resident. He then completed his Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at UCSF (SFVA and Kaiser) and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. After his fellowship, he returned to San Mateo Medical Center as an inpatient psychiatrist and core faculty member of the residency program. Prior to walking down the path to medical school, Dr.

Rennie Burke, MD
PGY4 Co-Chief Resident

Rennie studied history and philosophy at UC Santa Barbara then earned a master’s in history at Ohio University. Following this, he completed a post-baccalaureate program at Mills College in Oakland, California, where he also volunteered at a needle exchange and pursued research in UCSF’s emergency department. While in medical school at UC Riverside, he conducted research on trans medical education, founded the local chapter of Medical Students for Choice, and served as clinic manager of a student-run free clinic.

Ashlee Roberson, MD
PGY4 Co-Chief Resident

Ashlee graduated from Keck School of Medicine at USC. She completed her undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College. As a medical student, she participated in research studying the preterm birth experiences of African American mothers across LA county. She also volunteered as the pediatric interest group community outreach chair, and with the student run clinic that serves individuals who are unhoused or marginally housed. As a resident, Ashlee has done research examining racial inequities in prescribing practices.
