Commission on Aging
Mission Statement: Promote programs to achieve the Older Americans Act of 1965.
Authority: Resolution 27086 adopted November 12,1969; Resolution 35994 adopted May 4, 1976; Resolution 42938 adopted January 1982; Resolution 54441 adopted November 1990; Resolution 65013 abd 65025 adopted January 2002.
Membership
& Qualification:

Twenty-one members, one-halfof whom must be made up of consumers of services, low income and minority persons shall be represented in proportion to their number in the area; one representative of San Mateo County nutrition project. The majority of the commissioners must be over 60 years of age.

Term: 3 years; maximum of 12 years
Duties:

Advises the Board of Supervisors, develops and conducts programs in conformity with specific provisions of Older Americans Act of 1965 subject to approval of the Board of Supervisors.

Appointment: Board of Supervisors. Interviews are conducted by the Board of Supervisors or the Appointments Committee. Composition of Appointments Committee: one person each selected by President Board of Supervisors, Chair Commission on Aging, Community College District Senior Advisory Committee, Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Senior.
