The majority of women in county jails committed non-violent offenses, typically as a result of drug or alcohol addictions, and are often themselves victims of abuse. As a community, what can we do to improve policy and practice to provide treatment options for incarcerated women? The San Mateo County Women’s Criminal Justice Summit will engage the community in an important dialogue on the need to improve outcomes for women and children in the criminal justice system, ensure cost-effective corrections reforms, reduce recidivism and protect public safety.
