What is Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic disease of the airways in the lungs that makes it hard for people to breathe - the airways get narrower, and air can't move in and out as easily. Tobacco smoke, infections, and allergic "triggers" like dust mites, furry animals, molds, and pollens make it worse. Asthma can almost always be controlled with medication and by avoiding triggers; rarely, some people still die from it.
