How to Apply for a USEPA Identification Number  Printer Friendly View

It is the responsibility of a waste generator to determine whether a hazardous waste is generated (Section 66471, Title 22 CCR). If a RCRA waste (federally regulated hazardous waste of at least 27 gallons liquid or 220 pounds solid), or 1 kilogram of extremely hazardous waste (1 quart liquid or 2.2 pounds solid) per calendar month, is generated, a USEPA Notification of Regulated Waste Activity form must be completed and submitted to the following address.

USEPA Region IX, RCRA Program
120 Howard Street, Suite 730
San Francisco, CA 94105
(415) 495-8895

If a generated waste is regulated only in the State of California, such as waste oil, or the generated RCRA waste is less than the threshold quantities listed above, then a completed USEPA Notification of Regulated Waste Activity form must be submitted to the following address.

Cal/EPA
Department of Toxic Substance Control
P.O. Box 806
400 P Street, 4th Floor
Sacramento, CA 95812-0806
(916) 324-1781

In either case, an RP must also contact the State of California Board of Equalization at (916) 739-2582 to determine if registration is necessary under the State Revenue and Taxation Code.
