CPSP Information for Providers

Purpose
The purpose of CPSP is to offer prenatal and postpartum care for Medi-Cal eligible pregnant women. In addition to obstetric care, CPSP participants receive prenatal vitamins, health education, nutrition services, assistance with family, financial and personal concerns, and referrals to community agencies. Some CPSP Provider sites also offer classes of interest to pregnant women and her family. This model of care is based on evidence that pregnancy and birth outcomes improve when routine obstetric care is enhanced with specific nutrition, health education, and psychosocial services.

  • To decrease the incidence of low birth weight in infants
  • To improve the outcome of every pregnancy
  • To give every baby a healthy start in life
  • To lower health care costs by preventing catastrophic illness in infants and children.

Services
Medi-Cal eligible women receive comprehensive services, including prenatal care, health education, nutrition services, and psychosocial support during pregnancy and up to sixty days after delivery of their infants.

Practitioners include physicians, nurse midwives, physician assistants, nurses, social workers, health educators, nutritionists, and comprehensive perinatal health workers.

Who is eligible to participate in CPSP?
Medi-Cal eligible residents of San Mateo County who are pregnant or no more than sixty days postpartum.
