SAN MATEO COUNTY CELEBRATES OLDER AMERICANS MONTH WITH POETRY AND PHOTOGRAPHY
The month of May is recognized nationally as "Older Americans Month" to highlight and acknowledge the unique contributions of seniors to the nation and our local communities. In San Mateo County, two major events are scheduled to celebrate Older Americans Month:
On Tuesday, May 2, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will present a proclamation to the Commission on Aging designating May 2006 as "Older Americans Month." This proclamation will be presented at 10 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors' Chambers in Redwood City. The Commission on Aging will also present their annual report to the Board.
On Monday, May 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Board of Supervisors and the Commission on Aging will co-host a reception for the participants of the Commission on Aging Annual Intergenerational Poetry Contest and the Older Americans Month Second Annual Photography Contest and Exhibit for Seniors. The winning poets will read their poems, and the contestants' photography will be on display. This event will be held in Room 100 of the San Mateo County Health Department building, located at 225 37th Avenue in San Mateo.
The public is invited to attend both events.

The Commission on Aging meets the second Monday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 225 37th Avenue in San Mateo. The public is welcomed to attend.
