FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 23, 2007 San Mateo County Health Department Contact: Beverly Thames, (650) 573-3935 SAN MATEO COUNTY CAR SEAT SAFETY INSPECTION EVENT MAY 24 SAN CARLOS, Calif. - The San Mateo County Health Department's Injury Prevention Program, San Carlos Police Department and San Mateo/Santa Clara Counties SAFE KIDS Coalition will be hosting a car safety seat inspection event on May 24, 2007, at the San Carlos CALTRAIN Station from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by the American Automobile Association of Northern California (AAA) and KGO-TV Channel 7 as part of their sixth annual Buckle Up Around the Bay campaign. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death and injury to children between the ages of 1 and 14 years. The goal of Buckle Up Around the Bay is to raise the public's awareness of the importance of correct use and installation of children's car and booster seats. KGO-TV Channel 7 will air child passenger safety spots throughout the day. The San Carlos CALTRAIN Station is located at 599 El Camino Real. No appointment is necessary. Cars will be taken in the order as they arrive. Parents are reminded to bring their children, car seat instruction manuals, vehicle owners' manuals and car seats to the event.
