A New Green Building Program in San Mateo County!
On February 26th 2008 the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a Green Building Ordinance that will apply to building projects within the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County. The purpose of the Green Building Program is to enhance public health and welfare by encouraging green building measures in the design, building and maintenance of buildings. Green Building Practices are intended to achieve the following goals:
To encourage the conservation of natural resources;
To reduce waste in landfills generated by construction projects;
To increase energy efficiency and lower energy usage;
To reduce operating and maintenance costs for buildings; and
To promote a healthier indoor environment.
The ordinance goes into effect March 27th, and twelve months later County staff will report on the results of the program.
