County Medical Panel  Printer Friendly View

Labor Code Section 4600 provides that any reasonably required medical treatment necessary to cure or relieve the effects of a work related injury or illness is to be provided by the Employer. If after 30 days from the date the injury is reported, the employee is not satisfied with the course of treatment being provided by the initial treating physician, the employee may select a physician or facility of his own choice within a reasonable geographic area to continue treatment. Or, the employee may predesignate his/her personal physician in writing prior to the injury in question. A "personal physician" means the employee's regular physician who has previously directed the medical treatment of the employee, and who retains the employee's medical records, including his/her medical history.

The County Medical Panel will serve to identify those Physicians/Medical Facilities which have been authorized by the County Risk Management Division to provide mandated medical treatment for work related injuries within the first 30 days from the date the injury is reported.

The Medical Panel has been designed to facilitate the selection of the most timely and appropriate medical treatment for the type of injury in question. In most instances, the Occupational Health Clinics listed will meet your needs. For emergency situations, many of the Emergency Facilities around the County are listed with the location address and phone number. In an emergency situation, an injured employee should go to the nearest emergency facility. If you prefer, the Panel also provides a listing of approved Chiropractors, as long as chiropractic treatment is an appropriate course of treatment for the type of injury in question. If you need further assistance in understanding how to use the Medical Panel, please contact Risk Management (650) 363-4612.

If you live out of the area and are off work due to your injury, please call Northern Claims Management at (800) 750-5578, for assistance in finding an appropriate physician in your area.
