Degree Programs  Printer Friendly View

Associates of Arts Degree Program

The County, through a unique partnership with Cañada College, offers County employees the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts Degree in University Studies. Employees of our local cities, nonprofits and special districts are also eligible to participate in this program.

The University Studies degree program is comprised of general education courses, which will satisfy Cañada College's requirements for an Associate Degree as well as basic admission requirements to California State University (CSU) system and many other four-year institutions. The program requires completion of 60 transferable units. View the online flyer for more details regarding University Studies.

Classes are held Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at 455 County Center in Redwood City. Courses are taught in accelerated eight-week sessions. The first course offering of the Spring 2006 semester is Sociology 100. A cohort of students began this class on January 19, 2006.

If you are interested in enrolling for the next available course offering, please await email notifications from SMC_Accelerated_Programs for instructions. (Spots are limited. Students who are currently in the cohort will have priority enrollment.)

Masters Degree in Public Administration

In a new and exciting partnership with the College of Extended Learning at San Francisco State University, the County now has a new MPA cohort program. This new cohort is comprised of San Mateo County employees as well as employees from our local cities, nonprofits and special districts. The MPA Cohort classes are being held at the Probation Department Youth Services Center twice a week. The program is approximately three and half years.

Congratulations to our new cohort students, we wish you much success! 

 

Bachelor Degree Programs

The County of San Mateo County has new partnerships in offering accessible, accelerated and diverse bachelor degree programs with neighboring colleges to meet the unique needs of working adults. These opportunities along with the multitude of Colleges and Universities in the Bay area, give San Mateo County employees the opportunity to select a program that will meet there own academic goals.

These new partnerships include:

California State University East Bay and Canada College is now offering a Bachelors in Health Sciences starting this Fall 2008 at Canada College. To learn more about this program contact Ricardo Flores at 650 – 306-3319 or email at floresr@smccd.edu.

Menlo College Professional Studies Program, which offers a 30% discount to County, City and Nonprofit employees, offers an accelerated evening program in Management for working adults. To learn more about this program contact Dr. James Woolever at (650) 543-3757 or e-mail at jwoolever@menlo.edu

National University offers many degree programs including a Public Administration Bachelor’s degree program on line. Employees can enroll any time and take courses at their own pace.  To learn more contact Charlene Ashton, Associate Regional Dean at (408) 236-1101 or e-mail at Cashton@nu.edu.
