Psychiatry Residency Training Program: Curriculum  Printer Friendly View

Today’s psychiatrists master a breadth of knowledge that is unparalleled in medical subspecialties.  To help residents organize and retain what they learn, we devote an entire day per week to didactic training and continue to seek innovative teaching and learning techniques.  We favor learning in small interactive groups and often use a roundtable tutorial format.  Residents are expected to complete reading and presentation assignments in order to get the most out of these sessions. PGY 2 and PGY 3 residents receive a two-year sequence of classes together, in addition to seminars and conferences organized within the various clinical rotations.  The following is a list of typical topics covered during the four years of training (subject to change):

As we strive to make our didactic classes informative and engaging, we regularly modify our curriculum in response to residents' evaluations and changing educational needs. We expect that residents will actively pursue their own learning by reading on their own as well. Residents are encouraged to help design courses and are given opportunities to teach, give Grand Rounds presentatations, etc.
