What is the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)? The goal of CalWORKs is to: Help families achieve self-sufficiency through employment and temporary cash assistance. Provide financial aid for children who lack support and care from their parents or caretakers. Provide the opportunity for rehabilitation of the family whenever possible. Help children who cannot live in their own homes find the kind of care and treatment best suited to their needs.
