OPERATIONS DIVISION


PATROL BUREAU (650) 363-4763.
Provides general law enforcement services to unincorporated areas of San Mateo County and the contract cities of Portola Valley and Woodside.
Community Policing - actively maintains a positive impact on reducing neighborhood crime, reducing fear of crime and enhancing the quality of life in the community.
S.T.O.P. [Sheriff's Transit Operations Police] - provides security, patrol and investigational services for SamTrans and Caltrain.

INVESTIGATIONS / DETECTIVE BUREAU
Provides thorough and effective investigative and specialized services to the public and to San Mateo County criminal justice agencies to ensure a safer community and provide a foundation for investigation and prosecution while promoting Countywide and area-wide collaborative partnerships. The Division also provides intervention for at-risk youth and first-time offenders as an alternative to the juvenile justice system to reduce recidivism and promote stronger families.


AREA OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES / HOMELAND SECURITY
Provides emergency planning, training, preparedness exercises and field response to San Mateo County and its cities. The unit responds to about 65 major emergency incidents every year. The staff works closely with Environmental Health and the Hazardous Materials Response Team to respond to hazardous spills and contamination/cleanup incidents.

EMERGENCY SERVICES BUREAU
Provides Search and Rescue [SAR], Law Enforcement Support Services and Emergency Management planning, preparedness, training and coordination to reduce injury, loss of life and property during emergencies and to support the mission of law enforcement.

Emergency Services Bureau consists of 270 volunteers who participate in 10 Volunteer Units, and 65 sworn deputy sheriffs.
